About Azhar College

Azhar College was started as Junior School on 17th May, 1907 at Akurana in electorate of Harispattuwa in the district of Kandy in the Central province of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka.

Then developed in a land about six acres. It has become a National School in 1992 under the name of Azhar College, Many well wishers including politicians helped in many ways for the development of our college. It has produced many educated citizens to the country in many fields.

At present the college has more than 2500 students with more than 150 teachers in two mediums, and present principal is Mr. M.I. Thaibdeen.

College has 17 buildings including Science lab, Library, Office Complex, Cafeteria, auditorium, and Computer Lab.

It has a separate cricket ground and a basket ball court.

College celebrated its centenary in 2007.

Currently ours is a mixed school and projected to develop separate colleges for girls’ and boys’.

Our Main sports are Cricket and Basket Ball
